Inauguration

Well today one can’t help but write about the inauguration. It’s fascinating how this election has influenced so many people around the world. Living in a small European country we’ve always been dependent on the USA (in my life time anyway). The presidential election has therefore been big news every time, but not like this. I never much cared about who was elected, as long as it was a Democrat. This year, however, was different. I even followed the campaign before he got nominated.
For my part it’s not about race (though it’s about time this happens). It’s not the economy either. It’s worse. The world has grown into a dark and gloomy place. Hatred and fear are widespread. Ignorance and prejudice are allowed to rule. Wherever you look there are dangerous things and possible threats lurking. And in all this a glimmer of hope. Of change. The dawn of a better day, a better world.
How daunting it must be to have all that on your shoulders. How impossible to live up to all those expectations. Though I believe he sees this as a possibility to make a difference, he must feel the weight of it all. One can only hope that people understand the enormity of the problems he’s facing. That we’re facing. One can only hope that people understand that we all need to chip in and do what we can. President Obama is only one man and to make the changes necessary more people will have to be willing to do the work. If we want things to change we need to do things differently. Otherwise the outcome will always be the same. So “we” starts with you and I. Here. Now.

To use a popular quote from the famous author E. Burke:
“All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

What to say?

Honestly. Why do ordinary people write a blog? Like me. Right now. Some people have some profound things to say, but most of us don’t. So why? Is it so we can send our thoughts out there, hope someone reads them and feel like we’ve connected somehow? Perhaps. I guess I’m no different.

It’s a good place to tell people what you think. And to be honest, opinions I’ve got a lot of…
